The Elders
The Elders are a group of fifty couples who:
- are committed to this place
- have enough years of life to see the larger patterns
- have demonstrated a will to leave the community in a better place than they found it
We have met with the Elders on two occasions. Our intent is to meet three or four times a year in the full group and to have less formal, and smaller gatherings for specific issues along the way. The membership of elders changes slowly as people find it interesting to be part of the group and the members invite new people to the group.
Our gatherings follow a general format. We invite presenters to the event who may be from the community or from far away. They have something to offer us to increase our perspective on some matter of vital interest to the health and value of our town. Within the context of that stimulous, we conduct an inquiry, attempting to move the quality of our discourse to a high, open, level of inquiry and discovery. Within this inquiry, members invariably ask 'What if?" We continually gather the ruminations of the Elders, looking for emergent patterns which tell us about our aspirations and concerns in the most open and generative of terms.
In our first gathering, we asked an extensive set of questions. That material led directly to a look at our time written by Scott Wilson, one of the Leadership Team members. Please have a look at this elegant statement of our place at this time of the world.
Please send us a note, if you or someone you know should be considered as a Foundation Elder.
